Refurbished iPad doing strange things
April 6, 2012
I got a refurbished iPad from apple yesterday, it's behaving strangely. It registers what seems like ghost touches, launching apps or going berserk with the keyboard. Sometimes its ok, other times it becomes unusable.Does anyone have any idea on what is going on?I've had suggestions that it is hardware, the capacitive touch shorting out (thanks to my brother Dan for pointing me to this) so taking it to Apple to have a look tomorrow. Others say that it is temperature, and it does indeed go away when it is warm.Maybe it is just a ghost?

Birthday underground
November 8, 2011
I published this to Facebook, if any of my 'twitter friends' fancy it, let me know.So my birthday is coming up, and whilst I don't usually do anything special, given that its an anniversary that ends in a 0 I thought I should.
I have a fascination with abandoned places, particually in London. As it happens, Londons transport museum is offering tours of the old Aldwych station. It's £20 and includes a free museum 1 day pass. I booked for the 15:30 tour on 25th November here http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/whats-on/events/events-calendar/367-events-aldwych-underground-station which still had places left at time of writing. If friends want to join me your more than welcome.
Offline / Online - an introduction
September 30, 2011
I'm trying out a new experiment in creating a short link led blog. That might not sound too different from a normal blog, and thats properly right. I've spend a lot of time on my previous blogs turning into me talking in depth about my stuff and my life. The result has been that I end up not really writing much, particularly as Twitter has taken over for the most part as a better narrative of what I am doing (isn't that the old skool version of what twitter is for?).
Tommorow... An Airshow in Baxterley
June 25, 2011
I'll be back on the farm this weekend, helping out with my Dads Airshow (I'll usually be down on the Gate).Theres a fun packed day ahead, I'd just had a chance to look at the poster for the show, looks like exciting times. If your around the area (North Warwickshire, Tamworth, Birmingham way, do pop down on Sunday.(incidentally, Google Map lies a little, see the map on, put there will be signposts up).
Thoughts about a Pirate Internet
January 29, 2011
With all the talk of net neutrality, Wikileaks having it’s hosting services pulled, and now the unfolding events in Egypt and elsewhere with internet services being withdrawn, I’ve been doing some thinking around how we might create an independently controlled internet. I’m certainly not the only one thinking about these issues, they’ve been occurring for a long time. While I won’t claim to be an expert on the engineering details, what followers is a random collection of ideas of what I’m thinking about this at the moment, and what I’ve found online that others are doing / have done.

Looking for a London House Share
August 23, 2010
I've been in and out of London since last September since I had to give up my Camden space, on and off looking for a London home. While I have managed to settle into a routine of being London side four days a week, living amongst other places on top of a pub in Brixton during the week and going home weekends (well I can't sleep there). I've just finished a stint looking after a flat, very different experience living alone versus living with a group. I think I prefer living with groups, even though I have a large group of friends in London now, it's just a more social experience.
Uncivilisation Weekend
May 31, 2010
What a weekend! I haven't had chance to post anything until now, I have several 100's of photos to sort through and edit so what I have included below is only a small sample. From those tiny workshops (particularly loved the food foraging with Andy Hamilton) and small poetry readings. Lively debates, including 'that debate' between Dougald and George Monbiot. Others will write up better than I can, but for me, both Vinay's comments that this is one planet and demand is increasing, and Gaia's comments about issue networks really hit home. It was interesting hearing the mixed reactions people where having to it. The evening was full of lively music, the wonderful Power Down in the Church mixed with the 'Death Blues' of Bleak. Marmaduke Dandos delightful singing on Friday and Saturday, and the Impromptu Sing-along with Briony before closing out with Chris Woods on the Sunday evening.
Dark Mountain Camp Day Five - Sunrise at Dinas Bran
May 28, 2010
We're in the transition phase between dmcamp and uncivilisation 2010. Me and Julia, plus two american visitors had stayed up so late from last night, that we had an inspiring walk to the Castle to watch the sunrise. The Clouds meant we didn't really see the sun, but it was still wonderful.
Dark Mountain Camp Day Four - We Built a Hexayurt
May 28, 2010
We finally have it up, we have a Hexayurt (or as I'm calling it, a 'Flexi-yurt' on account of the fact the panels are all bendy). It was a gigantic effort, but worth it from the building team (mostly Tony, Julia and Chris in the end). The Hexayurt is made from hardboard, except its not very good hardboard... It's then stitched together plus gaffer taped for waterproofing the joins. It's really nice inside and Vinay has givern it his approval plus design suggestions. He thinks we can make more...
Dark Mountain Camp Day Three - Explorations and Building
May 27, 2010
Quite a busy day yesterday, A group of us went up to see the Castle Ruins (Dinas Bran) which was a long walk up the hills. The vista was beautiful, seeing the ruins, though slightly disturbed by a council worker with a leaf blower who appeared as soon as we reached the summit. It was great to see the landscape from the castle hill top, including the campsite and the pavilion, such a rewarding walk. We also on the way back managed to get some eggs from an honesty box.
Dark Mountain Camp Day Two - We became slightly civilised
May 26, 2010
On day two in the camp we where mostly civilised. A group of us went into Llangollen and saw the steam train. We had a visit from fire dancer Simbar who showed us his walking stick carvings. A few of us cut some more firewood for fire we did not use. In the evening the campers went into town for Fish & Chips and also discovered that the local inns keep their 'wolves' inside which got very friendly with us.
Dark Mountain Camp Day One - Building Shelter
May 24, 2010
